Grand Turismo Motoring Exhibition Opened at Porsche Museum

The Porsche Museum has inaugurated the Special Exhibition on Grand Turismo Motoring today, with the event offering a piece of GT experience to the public until July 25.The display will showcase the Porsche 911 GT1 (996 model series), the 911 GT2 (997 series) and the 911 GT3 RS (997 series).

Building these GT cars, the Company has consistently continued its policy to offer the customer competitive models for broad-scale racing and customer motor sport,” stated the press release.

The aforementioned vehicles are track animals, with the GT2 and the GT3 RS also being road-legal. The 911 GT1, which delivers 600 hp, has been created for competing in the GT1 class of the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans race .

The 530 hp 911 GT2 is the most powerful street Porsche in history (the title will be taken by the 911 GT2 RS model, which will be launced this fall). The 450 hp 911 GT3 RS has taken the 13th place in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race held a few weeks ago.

With GT racing being closely related in technical terms to the production of street-legal models, Porsche focused on GT activities from the start as a test lab for series development. The Type 356 A 1500 Carrera GT launched in 1956, for example, is Porsche’s first sports car bearing this characteristic abbreviation soon to hit the headlines on race tracks the world over. Further outstanding GT models are the Porsche 356 Carrera GTL Abarth and the 904 Carrera GTS presented to visitors in a permanent exhibition at the Museum,” stated the press release.
