We all remember how the first Grand Theft Auto started - a 2D birds-eye-view game in which you were controlling a character, steal cars, shoot people, evade the police and create a general chaos. The title stuck to that idea even with the latest title in the series, but other than that, everything has changed.
Grand Theft Auto 3 revolutionized the world of open-world games by simply adapting its previous ideas to use 3D graphics. This meant the camera angle changed for a third-person view which could also be rotated in all directions to better find pedestrians for your “mowing” addiction.

After this huge leap, all what the developers did was to create a diverse enough virtual world for you to have fun in, being careful enough to upgrade the graphics with each new title. That is utterly important as you really want the carnage to look as real as possible.

Years gone by and today we’re playing the fifth installment of the very popular car stealing game, which enables you to do almost everything you wish; the game even features its own internet you can navigate. Now how’s that for the immersion?

Now let’s have an imagination exercise and picture a world where powerful graphic cards have not been invented and Grand Theft Auto V is looking like an old 8-bit Commodore 64 game. Can’t do it? Check this video made by a talented Hungarian animator.
