GPDA to Discuss Hamilton's Weaving

Lewis Hamilton's weaving in front of Renault's rookie driver Vitaly Petrov during the Malaysian Grand Prix two Sundays ago is now becoming a topic of discussion within the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GDPA). After Brazilian veteran Rubens Barrichello also criticized Hamilton's defending strategy on Sepang's main straight earlier today, another highly respected member of the GPDA pointed at the Brit's wrongdoings.

You won't see Lewis doing that again in a hurry. That was a new style, if you like, going down the straight like that, and one that I think will be tidied up,” said Webber on Thursday, prior to the official start of the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix.

Until a couple of weeks ago, Mark Webber was vice-chairman of the drivers' body. Although he is no longer in that position – as he was replaced by teammate Sebastian Vettel – his voice is not without authority within the GPDA.

The fact that Hamilton was handed only a minor warning for his weaving act led plenty of criticism within the F1 paddock in regards to the new stewarding system, which is believed to be more latent as compared to the previous years. Apart from the Renault officials, Barrichello and Webber, also Robert Kubica admitted his disagreement over what happened in Sepang, hinting that the F1 rulebook doesn't seem that clear anymore.

The way he drove was not right – I thought something should have been done. According to the rules, I think there should have been a penalty. Reading the regulations, I'm clear. Watching Malaysia, I'm not so clear,” said the Polish driver.
