Gordon Murray T.50 Supercar Revealed with Huge Rear Fan and 980 Kg Weight

After several years of teasing and tormenting us with a brand new car wearing his full name, Gordon Murray has finally pulled the wraps off the T.50 and, just like Keanu Reaves, it is breathtaking. In more ways than one.

The man that gave us the McLaren F1 plans to fully unveil the car in May next year, as if on purpose trying to torture us some more. But as a Christmas gift, the man released on Tuesday, December 10, the first full image of the car, accompanied by a wealth of details.

More than anything, the T.50, as it will be known once on the road, is all about aerodynamics. Murray let his imagination loose and included in this vehicle all of his previously denied ideas, and then some.

The designer advertises the vehicle as the one with the “most advanced aerodynamics of any road car.” Drawn by his genius and with input from engineers working with the Racing Point Formula One Team, the T.50 also looks simply stunning.

The most striking piece of aerodynamic hardware is the ground effect one that ends with a 400 mm fan fitted at the rear of the car, smackdown the middle. This is an older idea of Murray’s, and will be used to accelerate the air passing underneath the car and force it out through control ducts in the rear diffuser.

This clever idea allowed Murray to shape the upper side of the car as he saw fit, riding it of vents, ducts, or flaps.

At the heart of the car will sit a Cosworth-built V12 that will spin at a maximum of 12,100 rpm, making it the fastest-revving engine ever used in a road car. The engine is aided in its operation by a 48-volt integrated starter-generator.

The T.50 should develop a maximum of 700 hp and comes with six aero modes, the most powerful of which being Vmax. And that’s a great deal of power for a car that will weight only 980 kg.

Production of the three-seater T.50 will likely begin next year, but if you plan to buy yourself one you can forget it. Only 100 will ever be made, and all have been already spoken for. Even at £2 million a pop, before taxes ($2.6 million).

The full details on the Gordon Murray T.50 can be found in the press release section below.
