The name Gordini, is synonymous with performance-oriented Renaults and it has defined a generation of european petrolheads, mainly in the 1960s and 1970s. However, Renault has recently been re-using the name, on its regular cars which get a boost in the number of stickers, instead of performance.
However, according to Renault’s CEO, Carlos Tavares, the French brand will be using a different approach to a proper revival of the Gordini brand. While so far it has been used on the Clio (which we tested), Wind and Twingo, Tavares stresses that “Being authentic is very important, and it is true that a few versions of Gordini have not been 100 per cent authentic.

While he does not believe that Gordini could be an altogether separate stand-alone brand, Tavares does not deny the possibility of even sportier versions of their RS cars to bear the famed name, according to autocar.co.uk. We’ll just have to wait and see, but we are pretty sure the name will crop up on one of Renault’s sporty cars soon!
