GoPro Founder’s Boogie Ranch Comes With a Barn Full of Dirtbikes, ATVs

The same year Nick Woodman took GoPro public and was well on his way to becoming a billionaire, he bought a Santa Cruz, California ranch that he would use as permanent residence for himself and his family until recently. That ranch, dubbed Boogie Ranch, is now on the market.

If you have a sense of adventure but aren’t exactly partial to traveling right now to get it (not that you should be doing too much traveling at the moment, all things considered), this could be your next home. You also have to have some $20 million to spare, but let’s not get too hung up on details. No harm in a little window shopping.

The Boogie Ranch was thus called because Woodman wanted it to be a place where you could boogie down and let loose, according to Mansion Global. Get your mind out of the gutter, it's not what you're thinking. Woodman went to the extra length of having it upgraded and turned into a complete experience, adding bike and hiking trails and using the on-site barn as garage for a variety of toys.

The ranch is now listed with Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty: it went on the market this summer and is yet to secure a buyer. Considering the asking price is $20 million, no wonder. The price marks a $6.3 spike over what Woodman originally paid for the 5,000 square-foot (464.5 square-meter) home in 2014, but it’s understandable given the exterior modifications, interior design upgrades and the recently renovated pool.

Woodman also held property in Woodside, close to the Boogie Ranch, but he sold it off earlier this year. He’s now living full-time in Montana.

The Boogie Ranch comes with 159.3 acres of land that offer vast opportunities to have outdoor fun, whether that means for you taking a dirtbike or an ATV up a trail, or tending to the chickens or vegetable garden on site. Or rock climbing, lounging by the pool or playing bocce on the dedicated court. Inside, you get five bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 half-baths, but the property comes with two separate guest houses as well. You know, for when you’re having friends over to boogie down together.

Interior design stands out for expansive glazing (sliding glass doors and full-size glass walls), allowing you to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery and the Pacific ocean in the distance. A couple of the rooms have been decorated with children in mind, featuring bright colors and bunk beds, but you also get more artsy stuff to please the eye of the discerning adult. The overall tone of the interior is calming and relaxing, with open-plan spaces and lots of blurring of the limits to the outside world.

Also on the premise is a detached 2-car garage to house actual cars, because the barn is packed with toys. There’s also a separate office to conduct your business uninterrupted, while visitors can be accommodated inside the three-bed guesthouse and the one-bed Orchard Cottage.

Whenever you grow bored of exploring the surrounding area, there’s a chicken coop and an orchard with avocados (this is California, after all), lemon trees and vegetables, and a beautiful flower garden. Further showcasing Woodman’s commitment to a sustainable life is an array of solar panels, but the listing doesn’t mention how much the ranch relies on it for off-grid power.

“This stunning 150-acre property is situated in the midst of a magical setting. With its perch above the Pacific, the main residence was designed to maximize ocean views from nearly every living space and bedroom. Celebrate the spectacular surroundings with friends and family or alone on meditative journeys through groves of majestic redwoods,” the listing says.

The Boogie Ranch is situated 45 minutes by car from Silicon Valley and 15 miles (24 km) from Downtown Santa Cruz, so you only get the impression you’re on an isolated, “magical” property because you’re still close to major points of interest.
