Google Wants You to Turn Their Self-Driving Cars into Public Art

When you think there was a time in mankind’s history when some paintings were considered heresy and artists would be burned at the stake, you almost feel like you’re reading a fantasy book. Thankfully, those days are over (at least for the most of this planet), and art is now for the better of this world. Art is also what Google is using to make their self-driving cars “user-friendly”.

Before you start going all fifty shades of fury on us, we need to warn you not to take the “user-friendly” part literally. What we meant by that, was that the autonomous car culture is still a young concept that, like anything new on the market, was met with a lot of scepticism by the automotive industry.

Sure, carmakers know that this is the future, but petrolheads are not that happy about it. Let’s face it, why would anyone enjoy driving a car when they are not the ones holding control of it. A self-driving car is exactly what the name stands for, which means drivers will seize to exist, all motorists becoming passengers instead.

So here’s Google, an IT giant that has enough resources to reinvent itself and the entire market if they have to. People don’t like autonomous cars? No problem, we’ll make them look good.

The idea revolves around the long-expected launch of the company’s first self-driving autos fleet, which will soon start cruising the streets of Mountain View, California.

Here’s how the company is alluring people into it: “We’re inviting artists in California to submit art to be featured on our self-driving prototype vehicles for a month of more late this year. Imagine spotting your art on one of the world’s first self-driving cars!

Bottom line, 10 pieces of art will be selected and featured on their cars, their website and at an “Open Garage” community event in the fall where all selected artists will get a ride in Google’s prototype cars.
