Google Urged to Update Android Auto with Dual-SIM Support

Samsung phones too come with dual-SIM support 1 photo

One key feature that’s still missing in Android Auto after all these years is dual-SIM support, which means users whose phones come with such capabilities can’t select which SIM they want to use for calls or responding to text messages.
Dual-SIM phones have become pretty common these days, and even Samsung’s flagship phones allow customers to use two different SIM cards at the same time.

However, when connecting such a mobile phone to Android Auto, users aren’t provided with an option to choose what SIM to use for calls and messages, as the app sticks with the default one from the very beginning.

The first time we highlighted the lack of dual-SIM support in Android Auto was in March this year, but because Google doesn’t seem to be too convinced that such a feature is worth the effort, users are now insisting for the company to make it happen.

Android Auto adopters on Google forums and on reddit emphasize how important dual-SIM support is for their daily driving experience.

Seriously, I can not understand how this basic feature is not yet implemented. there are a ton of phones with dual SIM. it's simply a confirmation on which SIM to be used. please Google, it will help a lot of users to receive a solution for this issue,” one user explains on the Google forums.

For the time being, the only way to use a dual-SIM phone with the other SIM than the default one is to start the call on the mobile device. This way, the call itself is then transferred to Android Auto using the correct SIM, albeit doing this from the very beginning on the car’s screen isn’t possible right now due to the lack of dual-SIM support.

Of course, it’s not the most convenient workaround either, especially if you’re driving and using the phone isn’t possible.
