Google Starts Investigating Double Notification Bug on Android Auto

As we reported only a few days ago, a new bug that showed up out of nowhere in the world of Android Auto causes the same text notification to be displayed twice on Samsung devices.

By the looks of things, only devices manufactured by the South Korean company are affected, and it all started happening after installing the December 2020 security update.

In other words, there’s a good chance the whole thing is caused by the latest update published by Samsung, but on the other hand, Google should look into it anyway.

And that’s exactly what the search giant is doing right now, as a community specialist recently confirmed on Google’s forums the issue has been forwarded to the team and additional info would be shared at a later time.

Thanks for reporting this issue. We've forwarded your issue to the rest of the team. We'll reach out to you if we need more information,” the post reads.

In other words, the Android Auto team is now investigating these reports trying to figure out why the same notification lands twice on Samsung devices, though it goes without saying this isn’t by any means a guarantee a fix would eventually be shipped.

Is there anything you can do in the meantime? Not really, especially if the culprit is indeed the latest security update published by Samsung for its devices. The only way to go in this case would be a full reflash of the smartphone, though it’s pretty clear this isn’t by any means a convenient workaround, and there’s a good chance not a lot of people would be willing to use it.

Google is projected to release a new Android Auto update in January as version 6.0, but given the investigation of this problem has only recently started, there is a chance a fix wouldn’t be included.

Expect more information to be shared, however, as this investigation advances.
