Since Google Maps is currently one of the top navigation apps out there, it’s obviously vital for so many users to be able to change the language of the driving instructions they receive.
And Google Maps does come with such options, allowing users to change the navigation voice language and thus receive guidance that makes more sense for them.
But as far as the interface of the app is concerned, Google Maps doesn’t come with a configuration menu to let users change the language, which is something that’s a little bit surprising given this navigation app is currently being used in pretty much every little corner of the world.
And yet, according to a recent discovery, Google has already started the work on such a configuration option, and the latest Google Maps update brings the first evidence in this regard.
In other words, Google Maps will soon allow users to change the language of the app interface, at least on Android, and judging from the existing code, closing and relaunching it will be necessary to apply the changes. In addition, it looks like Google is trying to make the process as straightforward as possible, so Google Maps will automatically suggest a new language, most likely based on the system settings on your device.
Google Maps 10.53.1 also comes with additional Driving Mode improvements, as it looks like it’s now just a matter of time until Google officially releases it. Announced with much fanfare in 2018, the Google Assistant Driving Mode is supposed to replace Android Auto for phones.
The interface is thus heavily inspired by Android Auto, with users to be allowed to run a series of specific apps, such as Spotify and Google Maps, but also to access phone calls and messages, right from the main screen. A navigation bar will be placed at the bottom for quick app switching, all alongside a microphone phone to easily launch Google Assistant.
The new driving mode is currently in its final development stages, and the public launch is expected to happen rather sooner than later.
