The first electric Street View car from Google is a Jaguar I-Pace that’s been adapted to integrate the necessary technology. It has added rooftop mountings for the camera, new rear-window glass for wiring, and a specially redesigned switchgear for Google Street View’s controls.

The Google Jaguar will be used for both updating Google Maps as well as measure street-by-street air quality in Dublin, according to Jaguar. Google started to add this function for its Street View cars in 2015.

The new, electric vehicle has mobile air sensors developed by Aclima, to be able to measure CO2 emissions, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and fine particles (PM2.5). The Jaguar I-Pace also offers cabin air ionization.

On a side note, Jaguar Land Rover has been ambitiously working on a next-gen air filtration system capable of stopping airborne microbes by as much as 97%. It is also effective against odors, mold, allergens, pollens, and even hazardous substances. The technology will be used in models across the Jaguar and Land Rover lineups, including the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace, Land Rover Discovery, and Range Rover Evoque.

The all-electric Google Street View car will capture data for a year and develop maps of street-level air pollution. This initiative is meant to help researchers study air quality while also encouraging city people to become more conscious and take action against climate change.

With this partnership, Jaguar continues its bold goal of becoming a net zero carbon business by 2039.

The Jaguar I-Pace crossover was launched in 2018 and is the first electric SUV from Jaguar. It is equipped with a 90-kWh battery pack that offers a range of 292 miles (470 km).
