While the Google-owned Waze is one of the apps that drivers most often turn to in order to beat the crazy traffic in crowded cities, this is also one of the navigation tools that have been dealing with a series of super-frustrating issues lately.
First, it was the audio issue that Waze started causing all of a sudden on CarPlay. According to users who figured out the whole thing the hard way, after installing a recent Waze update, the car audio volume could no longer be adjusted, and the whole thing was broken down until the Google-owned company came up with a fix.

More recently, users have started reporting even more problems with Waze on CarPlay.

Some say the app is no longer consistent as far as the alerts it shows are concerned, as speed traps and police warnings are sometimes missed. Others claim Waze just causes CarPlay to freeze completely, even when not running. And the worst thing is that in this case the only workaround is to actually uninstall Waze completely, as using CarPlay with the app installed isn’t possible.

Today, Google gave its go-ahead for a new version of Waze for iOS and CarPlay. Waze 4.63 is now available for download, and there’s a good chance some of the issues mentioned above are finally resolved.

As it typically happens with these updates, Google hasn’t provided a detailed changelog, but it does say that this new version “fixes a bug that caused some drivers to get an incorrect error message when opening Waze.

I’m still waiting for more details regarding other bug fixes that could be included in this release, as I haven’t experience any of those mentioned above to be able to tell if they’re resolved or not. The freezing, for example, isn’t a widespread bug, as only a limited number of devices are likely affected.

You can get the new Waze version from the App Store using this link to try out the latest update.
