Beta versions are typically supposed to give users the chance to try out new improvements coming to the app they use before the rollout to production devices, technically allowing the developing team to further polish the experience and fix bugs in advance.
Google, as one of the top app developers on Android, keeps rolling out beta builds of its software, including for the Waze navigation app.
As everybody knows already, Waze is a top app on Android Auto, as it allows drivers to beat traffic jams and find a faster way to their destination in crowded cities.
Because it’s such an important app, beta builds are critical, as they help users try out all these new features in advance, but also get the fixes they’ve been waiting for.
Google has been hard at work on beta builds lately, as it released no less than three different updates in a little over one week.
It all started with Waze 4.62.0.0 beta published in late April, followed by no less than two different versions that went live earlier this week. The two updates that shipped in May are 4.62.0.3 beta and 4.62.0.4 beta.
Of course, Google hasn’t provided any information as to what’s new in these updates, but there’s a chance that in addition to the bug fixes we told you about, the company is also testing a major new feature. More recently, the search giant has been spotted testing lane guidance in Waze, a feature borrowed from Google Maps that is expected to make its debut for all users in the coming updates.
For the time being, all these beta builds are living proof that Google is very committed to improving Waze on its very own platform. There’s no ETA as to when the next stable build could go live, but considering that the last update was shipped in mid-March, it’s all probably just a matter of time until the go-ahead of this release is given.
