Google has released new updates for Google Maps in both the stable and the beta channels, and users can download them right now on their devices.
More specifically, these updates are aimed at Android devices, but they can also be used on Android Auto, so all these improvements also come in handy for those who use the app for navigation in their cars.

As usual, Google hasn’t provided a changelog, but given they are minor updates, there’s a good chance they are only supposed to further polish the experience with the app and possibly introduce other small bug fixes.

The two versions available today are 10.40.2 in the stable channel and 10.41.2 in the beta program. Google Maps version 10.40.2 was originally released by Google in early May, but today, the company has published more variants of the APK installer, most likely as the rollout through the Google Play Store has been completed.

As a matter of fact, the latest update for Google Maps in the Google Play Store is dated May 12, so there’s a good chance the most recent version is now available for everyone.

As for the beta build, this updated version is likely to introduce additional fixes that would eventually make their way to the stable channel too. And yet, given Google doesn’t bundle any release notes with these updates, it’s hard to figure out what’s new at this point.

Earlier this week, it was discovered that Google further polished the location sharing feature of Google Maps on Android, so the stable update that’s now available for everyone most likely enables this change for all users. The feature has also showed up on my Samsung Galaxy Note9 after installing today Google Maps update.

You can download the latest Google Maps versions APK installers using this link. The same versions are also published in the Google Play Store (for the beta build you need to be part of the testing program).
