Google Quietly Adds a Cool New Feature in the Latest Android Auto Update

After the major overhaul shipped in the summer of 2019, Google keeps refining the experience with Android Auto using monthly updates, but more often that not, the search giant doesn’t provide us with a detailed changelog for new releases.

So while Android Auto updates obviously come in handy because they typically polish the experience even further, little is known about the things they are supposed to improve.

The most recent Android Auto update, for example, seems to improve the way search results are displayed when the driver uses the Google Assistant to play a song.

Instead of eating up the entire screen, the message to “Tap for more results” is now included in a notification that shows up from the top, but without covering whatever is running on the display.

As someone on reddit says, the notification for new songs still shows up even when the app playing that song is in focus, but this is most likely something that Google will refine in the coming updates.

I noticed today when I ask the Google Assistant to play a song that the notification for tap for more results no longer takes up the entire screen,” the redditor explains.

I couldn't stand that big obnoxious button that basically said to tap the notification and get more results. For some reason, when requesting a song through the Google Assistant, it looks like there's a notification that still comes up telling you what song is playing even when the music or media app is in focus and even if the media track notifications are disabled.

Of course, this isn’t necessarily a breaking change, but it’s living proof Google is working on polishing the experience with Android Auto these days, not only by resolving the problems reported by users, but also by refining the features that are already available in the app.
