Google-Owned Waze Said to Be Working on Critical CarPlay Update

The issue happens only on CarPlay 1 photo

Google-owned app is said to be working on a fix specifically aimed at CarPlay users after discovering that the latest version causes the app to break down volume control for iPhone users.
More specifically, Waze is now encountering an issue that makes it impossible to adjust the volume level when CarPlay is running on the screen.

Several users confirmed that the problem is happening after installing the most recent version of Waze published in the App Store, and a discussion thread on the Waze subreddit includes confirmations from drivers coming across this behavior on CarPlay.

Today my Waze started acting up in CarPlay. Usually music volume and Waze volume are independent of each other. I can usually turn the music volume up/down while Waze is working. But today all of a sudden, if Waze is on then I can’t turn the music volume up or down. It only allows me to turn the Waze volume up/down to a max of 11. When I turn Waze off I can turn music volume up to 40 again,” someone says.

By the looks of things, the Waze team is already investigating this widespread bug and a fix should go live as soon as possible, although no ETA is available for now.

What does the trick temporarily is reconnecting the iPhone, but it goes without saying this isn’t really a convenient workaround when driving. Some say that reinstalling the Waze app also fixed the problem, although this is something that works for some but fails for others.

While Waze hasn’t provided us with an ETA regarding the fix, we expect the new version to go live this week or the next one the latest, especially as the number of affected users seems to be increasing as more devices are updated with the latest version of Waze for iOS (also running on CarPlay).
