Google-owned Waze has just released a new version of the iOS app that comes to resolve a major bug introduced in the previous update.
More specifically, users have discovered that after installing Waze version 4.62, controlling the volume in their cars no longer worked as expected.

Instead of adjusting the overall sound volume, pressing the steering wheel buttons or the head unit controls only adjusted the lane guidance volume when Waze was running on CarPlay, even if the app was not in focus.

Many believed it was all an issue caused by CarPlay or the head unit itself, but in fact, Waze was the culprit in every single case. There was no workaround for the bug other than disconnecting the iPhone and then adjusting the volume in the car; many confirmed that after reconnecting the iPhone and relaunching Waze, the issue returned, so this was not exactly a fix.

Today, Waze rolled out version 4.62.2, and it’s easy to figure out that this new release is a minor one only by checking out the new build number. That said, we can confirm that after installing this new version of Waze everything is back to normal in CarPlay, and adjusting the volume works as expected with the navigation app running on the car’s screen.

Waze is currently one of the preferred choices for many users when it comes to navigation, not only on their phones, but also on the car head unit with Android Auto or CarPlay. And it’s all because when compared to Google Maps, Waze is specifically supposed to help beat traffic in crowded cities and provide the fastest route to a user-defined destination.

The Google-owned app is based on community reports, as users can submit the location of speed traps, potholes, traffic jams, and other items and events, which are then used by Waze to determine the quickest route.
