Google Maps Will Let Users Watch Top Movies Completely for Free

Google Maps is a great navigation tool, but at the same time, the Mountain View-based parent company is always looking into ways to expand all of its other sides.

And most recently, Google announced a collaboration with the British Film Institute (BFI) for a rather unique feature that would be added to Google Maps beginning with late November.

Users will be allowed to watch tens of movies on Google Maps, all at absolutely no cost, as long as they solve a little puzzle from the comfort of their sofas.

More specifically, Google and BFI have published the movies at various locations on Google Maps, and if you can figure out where they are, you can then watch them completely for free.

These United Kingdom locations are tied to various details about the movies, such as the place where they were set, so after discovering them on the map, you can just hit the play button and that’s pretty much it.

Google says it’ll publish a series of hints about all the locations where you can find the videos, and these will go live later this month as part of the Google Pixel Presents Mobile Cinema launch.

A list put together by Yahoo Movies shows that the videos Google Maps users will be provided with free access to includes several blockbusters, such as Skyfall, Children of Men, Dog Soldiers, Pride, The Souvenir, and The English Patient.

At this point, it’s not yet clear if the service is supposed to be limited to users in the United Kingdom, but as with everything else on the Internet, it’s probably just a matter of time until everybody else finds a way to watch the movies no matter where they live. And of course, expect the list of locations where the films can be found on Google Maps to leak to the web shortly after the campaign goes live online in late November.
