Google Maps Update Fixes One Big Issue, Second One Still Wreaking Havoc on Android Auto

Google Maps is currently the top mobile navigation app on Android and Android Auto, but this isn’t by any means a guarantee that everything is working flawlessly all the time.

And the living proof is a couple of bugs that were discovered recently by Google Maps users on Android Auto. One of them has already been resolved in the latest app updates, while the second one keeps wreaking havoc for drivers who connect their mobile devices to the head units in the cabin.

First and foremost, the good news. The most recent Google Maps update (11.35.1) corrects the glitch that caused the app to always start in and use the dark mode. The application therefore ignored the user settings and used this visual style exclusively, even during the day.

The whole thing happened exclusively on Android Auto, but fortunately, the search giant managed to find a solution pretty fast, so it’s now available for all Google Maps users in the most recent version of the app.

The bad news is that another Google Maps bug is still there on Android Auto making it impossible to use one of the most important features of the app.

Using the Google Maps navigation with the satellite layer activated causes the application to freeze on Android Auto, and so far, the only workaround that helps avoid the crash is to disable the satellite mode altogether. It goes without saying this isn’t necessarily the most convenient solution, but on the other hand, it’s pretty much the only way to continue using Google Maps until the parent company comes up with a fix.

Unfortunately, nobody knows for sure how fast this is supposed to happen, especially as Google has so far remained tight-lipped on this particular glitch. However, the same happened in the case of the dark mode error as well, so fingers crossed for a second fix to be released in a timely manner as well.
