Google Maps Experiencing GPS Problems on Android Auto? You’re Not Alone

If Android Auto navigation apps, be they Google Maps or Waze, lose tracking all of a sudden, there’s a good chance the whole thing comes down to a GPS problem that others are struggling with as well.
The first time I came across this glitch was nearly a year ago when both Google Maps and Waze could no longer follow me on the map, so they often indicated an incorrect position, eventually offering inaccurate navigation instructions.

These problems, however, have since been resolved and everything seems to be working fine for the majority of users.

But it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone’s getting this flawless experience, as some claim that GPS struggles are far from over in Android Auto, with both Google Maps and Waze sometimes failing to determine the location of the car when in motion.

A post on Google’s forums includes a thorough analysis of the issue, with someone explaining that turning to dedicated GPS apps sometimes helps deal with the whole thing.

I opened up GPS Fix/Optimizer directly on my phone and hit the button on bottom left to turn on service. I then opened up GPS Status and saw that the GPS was not getting a location fix. I then tried in GPS Status the option for Manage A-GPS State and selected reset and then download. A quick check showed no gps location fix and I left it alone for about a minute. The next step I did was unplug the USB cord from the phone and within a couple seconds, I got an great gps signal and a location fix,” one user says.

Several others have confirmed that a similar behavior is also experience in Google Maps and Waze on their devices.

The good news is that these problems appear to be rather limited for now, so they aren’t really widespread. On the other hand, Google is yet to acknowledge them, so if you come across GPS problems, you’d better not hold your breath for a fix.
