Everybody knows the experience with Android Auto isn’t as refined as it should be. Still, it's somewhat surprising that Google seems to be a lot more committed to improving it these days than it was in the last 12 months or so.
In addition to the silent fix for the notification problem in Android Auto that was introduced with version 6.0, it looks like more hidden surprises are part of Google’s latest updates.

And this time, the target is the voice command support available when driving with Android Auto on the head unit. The search giant has confirmed the latest Google app update resolves one big annoyance users have been complaining about for quite a while.

More specifically, the latest Google app update comes to fix the “Sorry, I don’t understand you” error encountered when trying to perform certain tasks hands-free with Google Assistant on Android Auto.

The problem was first reported earlier this year, but it’s been around for way longer, only that nobody knew exactly how to fix it.

Google, however, has been working on a solution quietly. The latest Google app update finally resolves it, bringing things back to normal.

Thanks for all the reports. The Google Assistant team addressed a fix for this issue. Please update your Google app to the latest version,” a member of the Android Auto team confirmed on Google’s forums.

So what you need to do next is to head over to the Google Play Store and update the Google app to make sure you’re running the latest version. If no update is available, then you can download the newest Google app build manually using the APK installer available on this page.

If you’re part of the beta build and still experiencing this problem, just head over to the stable channel where everything is now supposed to be working correctly.
