Whenever it comes to getting CarPlay support in a car where such a feature isn’t available as a factory-installed option, Kenwood is one of the first names that comes to mind. The company builds several head units that play nice with Apple’s smartphones.
In other words, there are plenty of Kenwood head units coming with CarPlay support, and needless to say, this is one of the brands people most often turn to for an easy upgrade.

Kenwood has recently released new firmware updates for several head units, and while the company doesn’t specifically mention any CarPlay improvements, you’re recommended to install them on your devices to make sure you get the most refined experience in your car too.

The models that received new firmware updates in December 2020 are DMX9720XS, DMX9720XDS, DMX1057XR, DMX1037S, and DNR1007XR. You can find all release notes, along with instructions to update the firmware on the head unit, on this page right here.

In most cases, the firmware update process doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes, and it all comes down to copying the new files on a USB drive, which must be plugged into the head unit. The process is as straightforward as possible, as all files are imported automatically on the device, but make sure you consult the manual and the instructions provided by Kenwood for additional info.

The most recent updates for Kenwood’s 2019 lineup of head units landed in October 2020, and of course, you’re recommended to install them if you’re currently running an older release.

Software updates are important for a wide variety of reasons, but the most obvious is that they bring additional polishing and bug fixing that could substantially improve the experience behind the wheel, not only on CarPlay, but also with other features of the device, such as Bluetooth connections and the overall stability, performance, and reliability.
