It’s no longer a secret that the release of iOS 15 has so far turned the experience with CarPlay into a crazy rollercoaster ride. While Apple has already released a couple of subsequent updates to polish the new features, users relying on CarPlay are still struggling with various problems.
One of them is impacting Siri and the way it responds to voice input.
Mitsubishi Outlander owners reveal on Apple’s forums that after the update to iOS 15, Siri no longer works properly, as it doesn’t understand the messages and ends up sending the wrong texts.
“When I try to text somebody, Siri asks ‘What do you want to say?’ but whatever I dictate, the message includes the word ‘Say’ at the beginning. When it asks if I’m ready to send the message, if I say ‘no’ it usually sends it anyway,” someone explains.
Oddly enough, the same iPhone, still running iOS 15, works just fine on another car, so at first glance, it’s all just a compatibility problem between the new operating system version and Mitsubishi’s software.
Some of those struggling with this error say they have already contacted Mitsubishi, but so far, no response from the carmaker has been offered. Others are being told there’s absolutely no update for the head unit, in which case their only option is to just wait until a patch is shipped.
More concerning is that nobody knows for sure what company should come up with a fix. If Apple is the one to blame for the whole thing, then the new iOS versions should already address the glitch, but on the other hand, this wouldn’t make much sense given the same iPhone works properly in another car.
If Mitsubishi is the one responsible for the development of a patch, then the carmaker should just instruct its dealers to tell customers a fix is on its way.
At this point, the confusion caused by this bug is what’s making it ten times worse, so make sure you reach out to both Apple and Mitsubishi if you’re struggling with the same error.
