Cars get stolen every day, and that is just a statistic. While some models are more prone to be stolen than others, a group of thieves managed to take several cars in one heist.
Unlike other thefts, the one we are talking about in this article happened in a dealership, and it was all captured on camera.
Thanks to the video footage, published by the Tampa Police Department on its YouTube account, investigators will have an easier job ahead of them, as they know how many suspects they need to find.
Since this is an ongoing investigation, the Tampa PD did not specify whether they managed to obtain any fingerprints from the scene of the heist.
However, they know the modus operandi of the crooks, so they might link this heist with other criminal activities performed by the group.
According to reports, the group was formed of ten people, so keeping a secret in a group this big is difficult, and it also increases the chances of one of the crooks to make a mistake.
The Tampa PD has already found two of the stolen vehicles, and one of them was involved in a single-car crash on the Interstate 4, Tampa News reports.
This may be bad news for the Prespa Auto Sales, the dealership that got robbed, but it provides investigators with information regarding the direction the crooks were heading.
It all happened in Florida, and the footage and strategy look like they come from a sequel to Gone in 60 Seconds. There is no Nicholas Cage or Angelina Jolie in the video below, as the bold thieves were covering themselves with hoodies and possibly balaclavas.
It appears that two members of the group broke into the dealership, discovered where the keys were being kept, and made off with eight cars. The other thieves were waiting in the parking lot, and got into the stolen cars as soon as they got the keys. Here comes the “Gone in 60 Seconds” part: they arrived in a stolen Honda Odyssey minivan, which they used to ram the gate of the dealership to ensure their exit.
The entire heist took about 35 minutes, camera footage reveals, but they left in such a hurry that they hit some cars in the parking lot. As the single-vehicle accident that happened on the Interstate 4 shows, some of them were not excellent getaway drivers.
