Golf R Smashes into Honda S2000: VTEC Never Kicked in Yo

There is, however, one type of traffic in the world that's more dangerous than any other kind – Nurburgring traffic. Accidents happen there on just about every day of the week. Most of the time, it's because people are going way too fast. But this next crash happened because somebody was going too slowly.

One thing everybody is told in driver school is that overtaking is one of the most dangerous maneuvers ever. It's why some people suggest obeying the speed limit is more dangerous for a beginner than speeding up to keep up with traffic.

This accident is a clash between two titans of affordable performance: the Honda S2000 and a Mk4 Golf R32. VTEC versus VR6, rear-wheel drive versus all-wheel drive. Japan versus Germany. It's what we'd call a classic.

The S2000 is slowing down to let faster-moving Nurburgring traffic pass it. Unfortunately, at the exact same time a Golf R hot hatch is caught out by the track curb, loses traction and plows into the back of the Honda at high speed.

The Golf will need a lot of engine work, but both cars should be okay and probably learned valuable lessons in track day etiquette.

Our say: Poor Honda driver probably never knew what hit him! Still, this could have gone a lot worse.
