Gold Folding Bike to Stow in Helicopter

Rich people concerned about greener, environmental friendly means of transportation, can now choose to own a 24 karat-gold folding bike to stow in their luxury sports car, power boat or helicopter.

The bike was launched by ilovemybike.co.uk, a cycle insurance provider, to mark the start of the Bike Week (13-21 June, 2009), bornrich.org reported.

This golden luxury bicycle is priced at £2,500 ($4,099) and can be folded into a discreet bag the size of a small suitcase, so you will probably forget it exists. Still, riding with this bike will not leave you unnoticed.

“When folded this bike fits as easily in a helicopter as it does on a number 37 bus – it’s a luxurious and healthy way to travel for the price of a scooter,”
said Andrew Davis, Director at ilovemybike.co.uk.

And since the bike was commissioned by ETA (a company that provides insurance for green products and campaigns for sustainable transport), here are some of the advices it provided in order to be one step ahead of bike thieves:

  • Insure your bike – according to research only 2 per cent of cyclists have adequate insurance. Spend a little time doing research before you buy cycle insurance as some providers offer much more for your money.
  • Buy a good lock – Aim to spend 10 per cent of your bike’s value on a stout lock and make sure you use it properly; always secure the frame and do not leave the lock on the ground as it makes it easier for the thief to smash
  • Fit a basket – If all else fails, fit your bike with a basket on the front handlebars; even thieves have street cred!
