Remember Gogoro, the electric scooter project we reported about back in early January and how enthusiastic we were on the battery swapping idea? Well, it's time you went even more enthusiastic because Gogoro is taking off for real and announces the debut of a pilot program.
The city of choice was Taipei, a good pilot market as Gogoro says. The program will debut this summer with the opening of the Gogoro Experience Center, a top-notch store located in Taipei's leading shopping district and which will allow the public to have a hands-on experience with these electric vehicles.

A growing partnership with Taipei City and New Taipei City, with even bigger development prospects

Gogoro established partnerships with local authorities, namely Taipei City and New Taipei City and has managed to secure a host of benefits for the customers. Early Gogoro adopters will be able to enjoy increased subsidy pool for electric vehicle purchases, preferred electric vehicle (EV) parking throughout both cities, as well as all the benefits which derive from the deployment of the Gogoro Energy Network throughout Greater Taipei.

Horace Luke, co-founder and CEO of Gogoro knows that the idea has excellent prospects because it will take urban commuting to the next level, eliminating two of the major EV problems - limited range and recharging times. “The positive impact of this renewed effort for high-performance electric vehicles in the greater Taipei market will be felt for generations and will be a global example for what the private and public sectors can accomplish when they work together for the greater good of citizens," he adds.

100 beta testers will start using Gogoro scooters

The first phase of the pilot project will see 100 riders using Gogoro machines in Taipei as beta testers. They will provide Gogoro with feedback on how these machines perform in the real life while the company will popularize the new direction in personal mobility.

We remind you that Gogoro scooters are equipped with Panasonic lithium-ion batteries which can be swapped at a GoStation. The system alerts the rider on the remaining range and shows where the nearest GoStation is. Replacing depleted batteries with fresh ones takes seconds and riders are once more ready to roll with only a minor interruption.

Using two batteries can provide a range of up to 160 km (100 miles) and pulling the throttle hard can make you reach up to 95 km/h (60 mph) if needed. However, the recommended speed is around 40 km/h (25 mph) and cruising at this speed will provide the best mileage from the 8.6 hp, 25 Nm (18.4 lb-ft) motor.

No prices for using the have been mentioned yet, but this info is sure to surface soon.
