GoFar Will Find Your Car’s Sweet Spot and Help You Save 20% on Fuel

We love nature as much as we love cars; some of us do even more. But until they find a way to make these hybrids (or EVs) cheap enough for regular motorists to actually afford buying, we can’t quite yet wave goodbye to petrol machines. Since most of us are currently stuck with our first ride, what if we could at least reduce fuel consumption, emissions and even the time spent in traffic, instead?

GoFar is a smart device you install on the dashboard of the vehicle. It will give you intuitive real-time feedback so that you can find the most sustainable way to drive your car. It indicates your car’s sweet spot, which is an optimum throttle position that maximizes your power and minimizes your fuel consumption. Saving fuel means saving money and cutting emissions, a win-win situation if you wish.

So far, finding that spot was not so easy to fulfil since every engine and every speed have their own mark. Here’s where GoFar comes in, apparently. Precise sensors constantly calculate the engine’s sweet spot and a real-time feedback guides you there. Instead of letters or images, the device uses subtle lights to warn you. Blue means you’re saving, red means you’re wasting and burning money.

For a daily commuter, the GoFar creators claim you can end up saving even more than $500 a year, and that’s just fuel money. If that didn’t tickle your interest, you should know the device also works as a smart car computer. It integrates into a community through app where motorists can exchange tips on busy driveways, timetables and more.

Like any cool gizmo, the GoFar has its drawbacks such as the fact the companion app is only iOS compatible at this stage and that the company cannot yet guarantee 100 percent accuracy for diesel. For instance, gasoline/petrol cars sold in the US for the last 19 years will work, so will those sold for the last 14 years in EU.

The retail price will be $149, but for those who want a better deal they could check out the somewhat cheaper options currently available on the Kickstarter page.
