The big “X factor” packed in a tiny package on four wheels got completely revealed today promising to add a bit of Japanese lifestyle and more fun to your everyday drive. The 2015 Toyota Aygo is here - Go Fun Yourselves!
The new Aygo is all about letting owners express their personality and have fun while adding a dash of Japanese youth culture touches inspired by manga, anime and even the Gundam Series with giant robots. The YOLO current, horse masks, Gangnam Style and the ‘I Love It’ track by Icona Pop used for the revealing video are also wacky suggestions on what this car wants to be.

‘When it came to developing the new Aygo, we had a strong foundation from which to work… But we wanted to do more,” said Toyota Motor Europe senior vice president sales and marketing Daniele Schillaci. “For inspiration we turned to Japanese youth culture, we wanted a car that meant owners could customise each and every part to their own personal taste… Welcome to the changing face of Toyota. We want to put smiles on the faces of owners. We want to enable them to have fun.”

You can immediately tell what Toyota wanted to do with its Aygo model by simply comparing it with its PSA sister cars - the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 108. While little lion only tried to be a bit funkier and the stacked arrows mini tried a different approach with its intertwined headlights, Toyota came with a totally radical design, making the Aygo the most interesting super mini out of the three.

The new Aygo is characterized by a new design style defined by the X shape you can see being splashed across the vehicle’s front end. Despite using the same platform as its sister cars and being built in the same factory, the 2015 Toyota Aygo came with a very different approach to styling, consisting of sharp angles, upwards oriented taillamps, trapezoidal shapes and a totally different waistline. The new design and color theme are also creating the effect of separation between the roof and hood from the rest of the body, with the big X up front being continued on the sides and reuniting with the windows.

By coming with a clever design, owners will be able to change the color of certain elements like the X-shaped front grille, rear bumper insert, front fender garnish and rims, while the interior benefits of the same aspect for the instrument panel, center console, air vents, shifter knob and lever surround.

All Aygo models will come with standard features including audio system featuring USB and AUX connectivity, LED daytime running lights, Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Start Assist. Among the options, Toyota will offer curtain airbags, Isofix, tire pressure monitoring system, adjustable speed limiter and the Toyota ‘x-touch’ infotainment system, coming with a simple to use interface and a wide selection of compatible apps.

Powering the new Toyota Aygo will be an improved version of the 1-liter VVTi gasoline engine making 69 hp and 96 Nm of torque coupled to a new optional x-shift automatic transmission.

The automaker said nothing about pricing or trim levels yet, but we know the new Aygo will come with an optional electrically operated canvas top which will sweeten the pot even more. What else ca we say? The Aygo is definitely the craziest super mini so far, despite the fact it’s not fitted with a rear engine like the Renault Twingo.

Stick around for more details and photos with the new Aygo.
