Go for a Lap Around Salzburgring with Augusto Farfus Inside the BMW M2 - Interactive Video

It would appear that, before the BMW M2 was launched, some of the DTM drivers from the German company were already given a shot at it from behind the wheel. One of them was Augusto Farfus, who is now offering to take you around the Salzburgring aboard the new M car.

Yes, it’s all possible from the comfort of your home thanks to this amazing thing we call “technology.” BMW has just launched an interactive video showing the DTM driver going around the German track, filmed from the perspective a front-seat passenger would get. And it’s amazing.

You can change the view on your screen however you like, from looking straight ahead to ignoring Augusto or even looking at the back seat if you’re scared. Either way, you’ll hear everything as if you were right there.

This isn’t the first time BMW did such an experiment. A while back, we were showing you another such video, part of a story, focused on the MINI brand and its new models. Back then things were just as heated, but in a different way, not on the track, with people exchanging fists over diamonds.

As for Augusto, it’s pretty clear that he knew what he had to say. Don’t get us wrong, we know that the M2 must be a pretty quick car, with its 370 HP and low weight of under 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs), but considering what he’s driving in the DTM, a proper race car, we find it hard to believe that he was really impressed by how it performed.

To be more precise, the M2 reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds in DCT guise as is the one featured in the video. Get it with the standard 6-speed manual slush box and you’ll be 0.2 seconds slower, not that it would matter all that much.

It’s interesting to note that the M2 was taken around Salzburgring instead of the traditional Nurburgring, but then again, this is a special M car that doesn’t even have a bespoke engine under the hood. Maybe there’s more to this car than meets the eye at first glance. Either way, this is definitely a good way to experience it until we actually get to test drive it.
