GMPP Brings the E-ROD 1955 Chevy at Barret-Jackson Auction

GM Performance Parts (GMPP) announced today it plans to bring its E-ROD ’55 Chevy show ride at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction. The car, which is a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air fitted with the brand’s E-ROD crate engine pack, will be on display between June 25-27, 2010.

The GMPP E-ROD ’55 Chevy is developed in cooperation with California Air Resources Board (CARB), California’s Bureau of Auto Repair (BAR) and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

The package can reportedly be fitted on both automatic- and manual-transmission rides, and sports the LS3 6.2-liter V8 block, rated at 430 horsepower. In fact, the E-ROD kit includes the same, basic LS3 engine that's found in the Camaro SS and Corvette. However, additional engine choices, including the LS7 and LSA, are planned for future packages.

The E-ROD kit does not come with a transmission, but GMPP recommends the GM Hydra-Matic electronically controlled 4L60-E four-speed automatic variant. Emissions equipment featured in the package includes catalytic converters and a fuel tank evaporative emissions canister, among others.

“The E-ROD was introduced at the ‘09 SEMA Show with industry-wide approval. Since then, we’ve traveled to every speed shop, cruise night and car show in California, spreading the word about our California emissions-compliant 430-horse crate engine package. We’re looking forward to meeting the bidders at Barrett-Jackson and giving them some ideas about how they can have this same level of technology in their next project car build,”
Jamie Meyer, product marketing manager for GMPP, said in a release.

According to GMPP, pricing is $9,375 for both, automatic- and manual-transmission classic vehicles.
