GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept Unveiled Ahead of Detroit Auto Show

GMC has just revealed its new Sierra All Terrain HD Concept, ahead of its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show. The rugged concept is meant to bridge the gap in the market between the hardcore styling of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and the more mundane Dodge Ram Power Wagon. The full photo set released by GMC gives an in depth look at a possible off-road version of the big truck, while also previewing certain styling elements that will trickle down to the production model in the near future. The pickup combines the standard Crew Cab from the four-door 2011 Sierra HD with the 5′ 8″ box, currently not offered on HD models. The All Terrain concept has received a special front end with a massive front grille, custom matte-chrome accenting and LED lights. A two-inch lift is also part of the package, with Fox Shox and custom control arms. To help the truck’s off-road capability, this comes with a sculpted front end, that delivers increased approach angle and the side steps that are retractable as well. The entire undercarriage is coated in a special hard composite for maximum durability. The power comes from a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 engine that delivers 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft (1037 Nm) of torque to all four wheels, using a six-speed automatic gearbox. The truck sits on big 20-inch 8-lug wheels, wrapped in a set of 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich KM2 'mud terrain' tires. Currently, there are no plans to create a production version of the All Terrain HD concept, that will be officially unveiled at the NAIAS show in Detroit. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 NAIAS, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
