We first told you about the new GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept in December last year. The first set of images of this impressive 4x4 showed great promise so General Motors has released a few extra ones, including some showing the interior.
It’ clear that the Detroit giant wanted to show us what they can do with a pickup’s interior when money is no object. The design study features higher quality and more luxurious materials than the standard Sierra, upon which it is based.
Sierra HD was created in order to explore what heavy-duty truck capability when combined with off-road mobility. It will debut at this year’s North America International Auto Show in Detroit. It combines the normal Crew Cab from the four-door 2011 Sierra HD with the 5′ 8″ pickup box that isn’t offered on any of the current HD models.
The four-door 2011 Sierra HD underpins the HD concept, while power comes from a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8. A six-speed automatic sends the 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet (1037 Nm) of torque from the engine to all four wheels. Ground clearance has been increased by about three inches (7.6 cm), width has been bumped up to 73 inches (185 cm), compared to the normal Sierra.
The vehicle rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich KM2 mud terrain tires. Off-road performance is enhanced by the addition of Fox off-road shocks, that are the same as the ones on the Ford Raptor.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 NAIAS, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
