GM’s Flint Plant is beginning the new year with a changeover, as production of the brand new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD is about to commence.
According to Michigan’s MLive, some employees have returned after the holiday break to remove some of the old equipment that’s no longer necessary following the $328 million upgrade, while others are on short-term layoff until assembly begins later this month.
"We'll start producing the truck later in the month," GM spokesman Tom Wickham said. "We've been using new equipment in tandem with old equipment, but because we have no trucks on the line right now, it'll be easier to completely switch out the old equipment for the new equipment we'll need for a completely new vehicle."
The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2015 GMC Sierra HD have been introduced at the Texas State Fair in September 2013. The new trucks will be able to haul 7,374 pounds of payload, 19,600 pounds on a conventional hitch, and 23,200 pounds on a fifth-wheel hitch.
