General Motors has just released a full set of images of the new Buick Envision SUV concept vehicle, which will be shown at the company’s stand at Auto Shanghai 2011. The vehicle mixes Buick design language with Chinese aesthetics for the SUV segment and makes use of a plug-in hybrid drive system.

“The Envision was developed jointly by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC). It introduces the development direction for Buick’s future SUV products for the market,” said Shi Hong, Director of Buick Marketing at Shanghai GM.

At the front, the concept features a two-layer traditional Buick waterfall grille, tri-colored shield insignia and Headlamps and fog lights that are inspired by traditional Chinese patterns, while the daytime LED lamps feature five “Chinese pillar-like” bulbs.

The Envision comes with 22-inch doubled-layered aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in silicon sports tires feature an asymmetrical unidirectional tread. What’s more, the whole car is constructed using lightweight carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum.

“The Envision has a people-oriented, comfortable and high-tech interior. Buick's signature 360-degree all-around integrated design and unique asymmetric central console bring out the best in each other. The front cabin has the appearance of a floating sculpture. It achieves a perfect balance between physical comfort and aesthetics. Spiral gauges offer an exciting futuristic feeling,” GM says, describing the interior.

“The Envision has inherited Buick design DNA and taken the Buick global design language to a new height. It makes a significant statement for Buick styling and technology, and will influence upcoming models from the brand,”
according to Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design.

The drivetrain makes use of a 2.0-liter SIDI intelligent direct injection turbocharged engine coupled to a pair of electric motor generators and a dual automatic/manual eight-speed transmission. Power is derived from a high-performance lithium battery and a solar energy roof with optical equipment.
