The “Z/28” designation is enough for any Camaro of muscle car fan to start a chat that can go on for hours, but this has been out of GM’s vocabulary for quite a while. However, the carmaker has recently trademarked the “Z28” nameplate.
However, this raises an interesting question - what will the carmaker do with it? You see, the GM was expected to introduce a Z28 model from the very beginning of the new-age Camaro, but this didn’t happen.

The Camaro range has pretty recently been expanded, with GM adding the ZL1 range-topping model, as well as the 1LE, which sits between this and the SS, so there’s really not much room for a new model.

However, General Motors could use the Z28 moniker (yes, it has been trademark without the “/” to replace the Camaro SS, which would allow the company to avoid customer confusion issues that could involve the entry-level V8 Camaro and the SS sedan model scheduled to be released next year.

Until we see which car gets to use the famous combination, we’ll remind you that this made its debut in 1967 as an option code for a race-prepared pack.
