GM to Delay Chevrolet Cruze

American manufacturer GM announced today it may opt for a delay in the launch of the new Chevrolet Cruze, initially set to enter the US market in April next year. According to spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin speaking for the Wall Street journal, the move does not hide any glitches with the Cruze, but it's a reassurance that the car will have a flawless launch.

The manufacturer will also have time to add an entire array of available options, including efficient engines, for the Cruze to get ready for the US market. The delay however is a bit odd, as the car is already being sold in Europe by GM Daewoo as a Chevrolet (Australia knows it as a Holden).

According to Martin, the delay is not actually a delay, as GM scrambles to have the car ready for production in April. The plant to source the Cruze will be the one in Lordstown, Ohio. GM only announced the start of the retooling process less than two weeks ago.

"These four GM manufacturing plants have a key role in GM's production of the next generation of fuel-efficient vehicles, the Chevrolet Volt and Cruze," Larry Zahner, GM manufacturing manager said in a release.

As GM repeatedly said, the Cruze will become a center model for the brand, together with the other long-awaited Volt PHEV. GM places it at the top of the 2010 releases and, according to the source, is trying to find ways to stick a price tag on it 'several thousands" above the one of your every day Cobalt.
