The Hummer recall applies to all H3 vehicles produced since the 2006 through the 2010 model year. There are 164,190 H3s recalled in the U.S. and 198,404 worldwide.
Hummer spokesman Nick Richards says a device on the hood called a hood louver can come loose and possibly detach while driving. The device helped to cool the engine on older Hummer models but is decorative on the H3.
Richards says the repair involves applying an adhesive to refasten the louver to the hood. He says there have been two complaints of the problem in the U.S. and three in Japan.
"If the vehicle is being driven when this occurs, it could strike a following vehicle and cause injury and/or property damage," according to a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recalled Corvettes belong to the 2005 and 2006 model years. These models have a steering-column problem that could cause unintended braking of the vehicle and possibly cause it to pull to the right or left, according to NHTSA. In March, GM recalled 1.3 million Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s over power-steering problems.
The recalls come amid heightened awareness for automaker safety issues after Toyota's quality crisis, which began with a massive recall of vehicles over concerns of sudden, unintended acceleration.
