You heard that right! General Motors added two safety recall campaigns with the NHTSA, covering approximately 60,000 vehicles. Still, the Fiat-Chrysler consortium trumped GM's latest efforts with a single recall operation that comprises of 467,480 SUVs.
Starting with the smallest op of the lot, 1,177 units of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala built from November 15th, 2012 to May 27th, 2014 are called back because they were remedied incorrectly. Not joking. As it happens, these sedans will need new software for the parking brake control module beacuse the brake piston actuation arm may not fully retract causing the brake pads to stay partially engaged. Bummer!
The second General Motors recall covers 58,698 vehicles. 2013 to 2015 Cadillac ATS sedans built between April 25th, 2014 to February 9th, 2015 are prone to suffer from power-operated roof panels that auto-close when the non-recessed "Slide" or "Tilt" switches are pressed. Therefore, there's an increased risk of injury and a failure to comply to FMVSS #118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition and Roof Panel Systems."
And now for the big one: FCA US LLC (the fancy way of saying Fiat-Chrysler's USA arm) recalls 467,480 SUVs for a problem with the fuel-pump relay. Covered vehicles are the 2012 and 2013 Dodge Durango full-size SUV and the non-NAFTA 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee mid-size SUV equipped with the 3-liter turbo diesel engine. Current vehicles with EcoDiesel engines are not affected.
This worldwide recall came as a result of engineers determining that the fuel-pump relays are susceptible to fail easily. Unaware of any related injuries or accidents, FCA US tells that the defective fuel-pump relay "located inside the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM)" may lead to a no-start condition or the engine stalling. 338,216 units of the 467,480 tally are believed to be located in the United States.
