As if the faulty ignition switches fiasco wasn't enough already, General Motors announced that three SUV models will also be recalled for a minor fuel gauge glitch.
Things over at GM seem to go from worse to borderline ridiculous. The Detroit auto giant announced recently that over 50.000 SUV vehicles are expected to take a trip to the dealership services for fixing a fuel gauge flaw.
More specifically, an estimated 51,640 model year 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossovers are included in this recall operation. According to GM, all vehicles have been manufactured between March 26, 2013, and August 15, 2013.
The core problem lies in the belly of the engine control module (ECU). A software glitch may cause the fuel indicator to read inaccurately, which could put owners in the difficult situation of unexpectedly run out of fuel.
This is a tragic turn of events over at General Motors, especially if you take into account that this March saw the recall of 1.3 million of these same three models and the Saturn Outlook, all from the 2008-2013 model years. The affected cars suffered from faulty side and front-center airbags and seatbelt pretentioners that could not deploy in the case of an accident.
The company announced it will notify owners when and where to get their cars fixed. Free of charge, needless to say. If you own one of the aforementioned crossovers and have questions about the recall operation, we advise you to call Buick at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020 or GMC at 800-462-8782.
