General Motors is recalling 33,700 model-year 2013 Buicks and Cadillacs to fix a potential software problem that may cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into sport mode.
While the issue could increase the risk of a collision, as the car removes any transmission-related engine braking, the US automaker said there are no reports of crashes or injuries.
The recall, which is expected to start March 28, affects Buick LaCrosse full-size sedans and Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2013 model year. 26,582 vehicles were sold in the US, while the rest of the cars were sent to Canada, Mexico, China and the Middle East.
The Buicks were built from April 25, 2012 through March 6, 2013, while the Cadillacs were assembled between May 29, 2012 and February 18, 2013.
The transmission control module will be reprogrammed at General Motors dealerships free of charge.
