GM Recalls 124k Vehicles Due to Bad Seat Weld

General Motors has announced a recall due to a faulty seat weld that could separate in the event of a crash. This latest recall affects all of four GM brands as well as a total of 124,007 vehicles, and, interestingly, it applies to eight different vehicles produced on three continents. The part was produced by a supplier in Mexico.

Affected are the 2013-14 Buick Encore, 2013-14 Buick Encore, 2014 Cadillac CTS, 2014 Cadillac ELR, 2014 Chevrolet Caprice police cars, 2014 Chevrolet SS, 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014-15 GMC Sierra, which may have been equipped with lower seat frames for the front seats that have incomplete welds on the seat hook bracket. The 2013-14 Chevrolet Trax is also affected, but is not listed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration since it isn’t on sale in the U.S. yet.

If vehicles are equipped with these improperly welded seats, it could increase the risk of injury if the vehicle is in an accident. GM dealers will inspect the seat frame to ensure proper welds are in place, and if they aren’t, then the lower seat frame(s) will be replaced. Fortunately, GM expects less than 1 percent of the vehicles will actually require the part replacement.

These are the model years, makes, quantities and build dates of affected vehicles.
