GM Official Management Changes

After a full day of rumors and hints, American manufacturer GM and its chairman/CEO, Ed Whitacre, announced the management changes GM will see as a result of Fritz Henderson's departure earlier this week.

According to the new management scheme, Bob Lutz remains vice chairman and will also take on the role of advisor on design and global product development, while Whitacre will continue to act as both chairman of the board and CEO.

I want to give people more responsibility and authority deeper in the organization and then hold them accountable,” Whitacre said in a release. “We’ve realigned our leadership duties and responsibilities to help us meet our mission to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles.”

In addition, changes are as follows:

  • Mark Reuss - named president of GM North America
  • Nick Reilly - named president, GM Europe
  • Tim Lee - named president of GM International Operations, overseeing GM’s Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa, and Middle East operations
  • Thomas G. Stephens – stays vice chairman of Global Product Operations and takes on global purchasing, headed by Robert E. Socia

"The balance of the direct report staff remains unchanged and includes CFO Ray G. Young; John F. Smith, vice president Corporate Planning and Alliances; Terry Kline, vice president IS&S; Mary T. Barra, vice president Human Resources; Mike Millikin, vice president of Legal; and Ken C. Cole, vice president Government Relations and Public Policy," says GM.
