The latest program statistics from the General Motors Ignition Compensation Claims Resolution Facility is in, and the numbers speak for themselves. At the present moment, 495 applications are still under review for eligibility.
Of the 4,342 claims submitted to date, the compensation program handled by attorney Keith Feinberg received 474 death claims, 289 Category One claims and 3,579 Category Two claims. Of those, Feinberg approved 104 death claims, 12 Category One claims, as well as 179 Category Two claims as being eligible for compensation.

By Category One, General Motors’ ignition switch compensation program means the following: “physical injuries resulting in quadriplegia, paraplegia, double amputation, permanent brain damage or pervasive burns.” On the other hand, Category Two is referring to “physical injuries requiring hospitalization (or outpatient medical treatment) within 48 hours of the accident.”

After all applications will be reviewed by Feinberg and his team, General Motors expects the settlements to add up to approximately $550 million. We reminder you that some GM and Delphi engineers were aware of the defective ignition switches from 2003. GM’s legal team is believed to have heard about the problem in 2013, yet the company didn’t start the recalls until February 2014.
