GM Donates $130,000 to Arlington Charities

It's been a week of good deeds for GM, who, after announcing during the Washington Auto Show a $87,700 donation for the Howard University, is once again trying to show it has not forgot the help received from the local communities in its darkest hours.

Together with the UAW, the management of the Arlington Assembly Plant and representatives of the GM Foundation announced today a $130,000 to local charities. The gesture is meant to honor the relationship the plant has with the local community.

The money will not go all into one place, but be divided between several charities. The River Legacy Foundation will get $25,000 to preserve and enhance the parkland along the Trinity River, the Parkview Neighborhood Association will receive the same amount to continue their garden project, while the Arlington Independent School District Foundation will receive an extra $25,000 for the support of the educational system.

Most of the money, $55,000, will go to United Way of Tarrant County, an investment group which uses the money to boost the wealth of the local community.

"General Motors couldn't be successful without strong support from our plant communities," said John Montford, GM special advisor and board chairman of the GM Foundation. "These donations are another example of how the GM Foundation is giving back to the communities that have supported us over the years."

"Any business needs collaboration to succeed, and we see great teamwork in Arlington on a daily basis," he said. "From union and management working together to employees volunteering to help local non-profits, we know the power of partnerships."
