GM Design VP to Make Cameo Appearance in Transformers 4

The automaker’s VP of design has filmed a speaking part for the movie that is set to hit Stateside theaters three days from now on, on June 27th. According to Detroit News, a clip from the upcoming Transformers movie was shown to the media recently, depicting Mr. Welburn as an angry man that tells Mark Wahlberg “My office in 15 minutes. I think you know where that is.”

Due to the fact that Bumblebee is a robotic hero version of the Chevrolet Camaro and Transformers 4 is chuck-full of vehicles built by General Motors (Corvette Stingray, Sonic and Trax are four-wheel co-stars in the upcoming Hollywood flick), it was somewhat expectable that a bigwig from GM would get a small role in the heavily anticipated movie. Too bad CEO Mary Barra wasn’t available as well, but she’s got her hands full with over 20 million vehicles suffering from various faults, including 2.9 million fitted with sub-standard ignitions.

General Motors’ Ed Welburn said he spent a day filming the scene in the automaker’s Design Dome. According to the VP of design, the scene made the cut and it should be included in the movie. A numerous filming crew spent a couple of weeks in 2013 at the GM Tech Center, which was converted into an executive office for the Central Intelligence Agency. “All my car stuff was gone. Every book, every paper was all CIA documents.” Welburn explained.

Despite the slightly aggresive product placement, we're keeping our fingers crossed Bumblebee will make it to the end of the movie without being recalled for ignition switch replacement. By the way, did you know that T4 also features a menacing Lamborghini Aventador portraying Lockdown, a Decepticon bounty hunter?
