Feeling a vintage automotive craving this Christmas? Then let’s step back in time with some Insta shots of past holiday celebration arrangements from the GM Design archive. Yes, we know that usually, the automaker's social media presence is a little more forward thinking than this, but you can’t have a bright future without learning lessons from the past, right?
While new cars are more often than not associated with Christmas celebrations, this year, we have seen an influx of classic rides take over various Santa-related duties. For example, we recently found a Morgan version of the classic reindeer-powered sleigh, while Ford decided to freeze the Bronco in the cold room alongside Santa and his presents.

GM Design’s Instagram account, on the other hand, has gotten into the holiday spirit with a group of archive photos that show the GM design lobby at various points in the past. Because they were shot around Christmas, these include various celebration vehicles and the ubiquitous decorations.

Because we’re (candy) suckers for both Santa’s red attire and the Chevrolet Corvette, our favorite moment from the bunch is the one depicting a C2 Convertible. The shots are of low resolution, but the license plate seems to read a lot of zeros – about six of them, so we’re probably dealing with a pre-production example for that particular generation.

The large Christmas trees and plastic snowflakes fail to distract from the vehicle, and the same happens in the nutcracker shot with the Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible. We were left staring at the ogling toy soldiers and almost missed the fact that GM’s car was actually modified, sporting a huge faux wind-up handle on the rear deck lid.

Last, but not least, there’s an ensemble shot – the third picture apparently depicts a setup of five white cars. As far as we can tell, there’s a couple of Cadillacs, along with a Chevrolet and Buick in the lot. Because of the car collection, we almost didn't notice it was probably the one with the least impressive Christmas setup – have you spotted the skinny trees just yet?
