GM Dealers Get Upgraded

A new era requires a new visual identity... American manufacturer GM has pretty much finished killing the unwanted dealers which threatened its very existence and it's now turning its attention towards the surviving ones.

In an attempt to make the Chevrolet brand more visible in terms of impact and visual identity, the carmaker announced that 700 Chevrolet dealerships will enter a renovation stage, at the end of which they will all have a uniform, better look.

According to Colleen Haesler, Chevrolet's director of sales operations, cited by Autonews, the 700 Chevrolet dealers will be joined by an extra 300 which sell the other GM brands in what is to become the largest facilities improvement program in GM's history.

It will all start soon, as some 564 Chevrolet dealers of the surviving 3,300 have expressed their desire to be facelifted. According to GM, that number is about to grow rapidly, now that the arbitration process for the rejected dealers ended.

GM and its dealers are currently gearing up for the model that will become the first new car launch since bankruptcy, the Chevrolet Cruze. Currently sold in some 60 countries (270,000 units delivered outside the US since spring 2009), the Cruze is hoped to be a model which can cope with the competition of Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

According to dealers, it will all be worthwhile, as the consumer's interest in the Cruze is high. “There's been a phenomenal response. We have customers waiting to buy them," Len Gripp, a salesman at C. Harper Chevrolet in Belle Vernon told pittsburghlive.com.
