GM China Targets 70 Percent Sales Boost in July

Automakers who are selling cars in China have extremely high expectations from this particular markets, mostly following the remarkable figures posted in the last few months. General Motors for example expects to increase its July sales by no less than 70 percent, with deliveries likely to total 140,000 vehicles, GM China President Kevin Wale was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.

The boost is partially the result of a government stimulus and General Motors says new car sales are expected to keep at least the same level in the next few months. However, in the last months of the year, sales could fall a little bit, Wale admitted.

"We are assuming that they will continue," he said commenting on the government incentives. "We expect some slow down, but not a dramatic slowdown," Wale explained when talking about the late 2009 forecasts.

China plays a very important role in GM's global strategy as it continue to bring very high sales despite the bankruptcy filing in the United States. Back in April, GM established a new sales record in China, having delivered 55,245 vehicles, with demand for Buick models growing as much as 63.6 percent to 38,071 units.

"Coming off a record month in March, GM is very satisfied with the ongoing strength in domestic sales of both of our joint ventures," said back in May Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. "We are particularly pleased with the resurgence of the Buick brand. Our new product offensive, which is still in its early stages, has helped get customers into our showrooms and increase demand across the board."
