St Nicholas Day and Christmas may be just around the corner, yet the General Motors recall saga hasn’t come to an end yet. The 79th call back campaign this year covers a lot of older-model SUVs and sedan cars, all of them recalled for malfunctioning headlights.
A General Motors document forwarded to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlights that 316,357 vehicles from the 2006 to 2009 model years are covered in this recall operation. 273,182 of those were sold and are still located Stateside, in Mexico and in Canada.
With this recall, GM can “boast with” 30.4 million vehicles recalled on a global scale this year, of which 26.8 million are situated in North America. In General Motors’ defense, the second half of the year saw the frequency of call back ops drop considerably from an average of two per week not that long ago.
In other General Motors-related news, outside attorney Kenneth Feinberg approved claims for 36 deaths, 5 serious injuries and 39 minor injuries liked to the highly notorious ignition switch glitch.
According to that same document, “if the headlamp driver modules is not operating correctly, the low-beam headlamps and daytime running lamps could intermittently or permanently fail to illuminate."
This condition doesn't affect the high-beam headlamps, marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps
Nameplates affected include the Saab 9-7X and Isuzu Ascender, as well as the Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy and Envoy XL, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick LaCrosse sedan. Compared to previous recall operations, GM hasn’t been able to confirm whether the HDMs in these cars caused any vehicle accidents. With this recall, GM can “boast with” 30.4 million vehicles recalled on a global scale this year, of which 26.8 million are situated in North America.
